From April 1999 GOI have
already introduced "Swarnjayanti Gram Swrojgar Youjna" for the
elimination of rural poverty. To make this yojana successful and
for its smoother implementation it is essential for various
departments of the government that to workout for various
activities like trainings, credit to promote collective strength,
market facility, to provide latest technology based structure
etc. There is also a need to diversify economic opportunities
for a better development of the life of rural artisans of the
state. So as an effort to enable the rural BPL artisans (as a
form of SHG or as an individual) to be a part of the mainstream
markets by eliminating the need for middlemen – the Rural
Development Department, Govt. of Gujarat has established Gujarat
Gram Haat on 19th May 2002. It's an autonomous body and
registered as a public charitable trust. Its working with
artisan centric approach. Gujarat Gram Haat at Ahmedabad is the
Nodal Centre of the state. |
