Gujarat
Gram Haat is an organization who
provides a permanent marketing platform
in a rotation base to the various BPL
rural artisans and SHGs of the whole
Gujarat state who manufactures artistic
products and which is the only
skill/art/activity for them as an income
source for the survival of their life.
Gujarat Gram Haat promotes their
products by various efforts and thus
brings them, makes capable them to the
main stream market level. It enables the
artisans to be a part of the mainstream
markets by eliminating the need for
middlemen. It's a Government of Gujarat
initiative with a revolutionary concept
to transform the lives of the talented
BPL artisans by facilitating a
professional branding and marketing
platform for their creative skills and
to make available enough opportunities
for them to raise their income levels.
Thought the
handicrafts of Gujarat have found a
global appeal, the artisans have
continued to stay exploited. As these
skilled men and women battle to keep
themselves and their skills alive, the
middle-men have continued to grow
richer. Neither are the artisans able to
get the right prices for their products,
nor do they have any marketing support
or a steady source of income. Lack of
permanent markets, their inability to
participate in trade fairs and their
absolute dearth of communication skills
have forced these gifted men and women
to turn nomadic and shift to other
sustainable employment activities. And
for decades, despite several schemes for
their development, these Below Poverty
Line (BPL) artisans have by and large
remained poor. |
